Which hair extensions are best for me?

Which hair extensions are best for me?

Jun 2, 2025

When it comes to hair extensions, the possibilities are endless: shoulder to waist length, platinum blonde to raven black, plus seemingly infinite options for method and style of application, making it near impossible to narrow down the right fit for you and your hair type.

If you’re feeling lost, don’t worry - this post is for you! Here we’ll break down the pros and cons plus maintenance expectations for each method for each hair type, allowing you to go to your stylist informed and ready to make a decision you and your hair will end up loving.

Before we dive into all the methods, we’d like to offer some general information on the quality that sets Laced Hair apart, and how we ensure you get the top notch treatment you deserve.

First off, Laced Hair has always been and will always be 100% human Remy, double drawn hair.

If you’re part of the vast majority of the population that’s unfamiliar, Remy is the highest quality level when it comes to human hair, meaning that each strand’s cuticle is still intact and aligned in a singular direction, resulting in a silky smooth texture, and preventing matting and tangling.

Double drawn extensions mean that the hair you receive will all be uniformly distributed root to tip, preventing thinning at the ends and delivering the volume you’re looking for! In order to achieve this luxurious feel, shorter strands of hair are removed from the extensions.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the different methods and find the best for you!

Pros

Not quite ready to commit to hair extensions 24/7 and want to preserve your wallet? Clip-ins are the fit for you!

Clip-in hair extensions have long been a favorite in the wedding and event industry due to their ease and speed of application (even you can do it in just a few minutes), leaving wearers with a maximum impact transformation in just a few minutes!

Cons

Although they’re perfect for short term wear, clip-ins are not recommended for extended wear, wear during exercise, or exposure to extreme heat, due to the metal clips used to adhere the extensions to natural hair.

PRO TIP: To ensure your clip-ins blend perfectly, we recommend getting color matched by a certified professional, and having them sculpted to blend with your natural hair!

Pros

If you have fine to medium hair and are looking for a semi-permanent option that still allows updos, tape-ins may be the perfect choice for you!

Tape in extensions are made up of individual strands of hair attached to a flexible adhesive tab, applied individually in strategic areas throughout the scalp to achieve your desired look! Tape-ins can be worn throughout the whole head, or used in conjunction with wefts to fill in the more fragile, sparse areas around the face!

Maintenance

You can expect to need to maintain your tape-in extensions every 6-8 weeks. Your stylist will need to remove the adhesive tabs, re-apply new adhesive, and re-apply them to your scalp.

Cons

One of the common complaints with tape-in extensions is visible tabs, so to combat that, we created our interLaced Tape-Ins, with invisible adhesive and hair inserted from the top of the tab for an imperceptible boost of length and volume.

Feel free to strategically mix and match interLaced with our traditional tape-ins for completely customizable fullness and color placement!

Pros

Wefts are the most popular option currently on the market, and with all the weft types and application methods, it’s not hard to see why!

We offer three separate weft options to best suit the needs of each head of hair: hand tied, interLaced, and machine sewn. All three options carry the same high quality hair, but each weft is made differently, resulting in different thickness.

Hand tied wefts are made up of individual strands of hair tied by hand to the seam of the weft. These are extremely lightweight and lay flat, and are best for those with fine hair! Machine sewn wefts are constructed via machine, resulting in a thicker band with more uniform distribution, best for thicker heads of hair!

interLaced wefts combine the even distribution of machine sewn wefts with the flat profile of hand tied wefts, making them ideal for fine to medium hair.

Maintenance

Wefts need to be maintained every 6-8 weeks. To preserve your hair health, make sure your stylists completely removes and re-installs your wefts rather than sliding your wefts up on the same strands of hair. It’s vital to give your hair breaks from holding extensions to promote new hair growth.

Cons

One weakness of wefts is that the fragile hair surrounding the face typically is not able to healthily support them, but with a small addition of tape-in, I-Tip, or keratin extensions, this issue can be easily fixed.

There are countless ways to apply wefts (we certify stylists in multiple methods), and in order to determine the best method and weft type for you, we recommend consulting a certified extension specialist!

Pros

Want to go the longest in between maintenance appointments, have the most natural blend achievable, and don’t mind spending the extra money?

Keratin extensions are for you. This celebrity fav is worn by the Kardashians, Paris Hilton, and countless A-listers, and if you get the opportunity to try them for yourself, you’ll see why!

Keratin extensions are tiny bundles of hair applied by melting a bond made of keratin around natural hair. Due to the many application points, this method is the most customizable of all, as the stylist has complete creative control over where fullness and color are placed.

Maintenance

You’ll also enjoy an entire 3-6 months between maintenance appointments with this method, giving you time back in your day.

Cons

The less appointments needed to maintain keratin extensions may even out the initially pricier installation of the installation, but please note you will need to purchase completely new hair with each keratin extension installation!

Pros

I-Tip extensions offer the benefits of keratin extensions’ blend with the ease of beaded extensions! I-Tips are small bundles of hair applied with a clamped bead, meaning no adhesive, but the strand-by-strand movement and customization perks are all still there!

I-Tips are a fan favorite for application in the sparse areas around the face wefts can’t go.

Maintenance

This method needs to be maintained every 6-8 weeks, and hair can be re-used, unlike keratin extensions.

Cons

It’s less common to perform a full scalp of I-Tip extensions as wefts are a faster route, but some prefer the unmatched blend of individually applied extensions.

Now that you've got all the details, we hope you have a better idea of which method works best for you, your budget, and your lifestyle! If you have further questions, our customer care team is always here to help assist you in your decision making process, and can even provide color matching help if you desire.
