Extensions Hair Care 101

Extensions Hair Care 101

Dec 3, 2021
      1. Did you know that it actually is healthier for your hair to go longer between washing? Washing your hair extensions everyday not only decreases hair color life, but dries out your precious ends. And fun fact, your hair extensions will actually help to absorb excess oils in your hair and helps keep them healthier longer. Try only washing your hair once or twice a week.
      2. Lather lightly! By lathering all your hair around your head, you may cause your extensions to tangle, and possibly knot. Instead, gently massage your scalp and work shampoo through your hair working from your scalp to your tips.
      3. Fully dry your hair before bed. Going to bed with wet hair can lead breakage because you hair extensions are more frail when wet.
      4. Additionally, make sure you do not brush our your hair when wet, instead use a wide tooth comb and comb out from end to root. This is more gentle and prevents unwanted pulling on your hair when it/s wet and more fragile.
      5. Before going to bed try braiding your hair into two braids. This will prevent your extensions from getting tangled (and you'll wake up with some soft beachy waves!
      6. Avoid damaging your hair in chlorinated pools. Claw clips are your best friend for a quick updo!
      7. Avoid tight top knots as these will put tension through the body of the hair, and cause breakage.
      8. Bristle brushes can be great for blow outs, but with proper methods.
      9. Give your hair a break from heat. If you are going to be out and about enjoying a nice warm day (in a dry climate), you can focus on drying your hair towards the scalp and allowing the ends to air dry. Opt for heatless curls or braids when you can!
