Winter Hair Care Hacks

Winter Hair Care Hacks

Dec 16, 2025

While it might be the most wonderful time of the year, the holiday season causes crisis on hair with the harsh weather of the colder months, leaving both your scalp and strands in desperate need of additional hydration. Luckily for you, we’ve cracked the code to healthy, happy hair year round.

Winter wreaks havoc on even the most meticulously cared for hair with the variety of environmental changes that come with colder months including colder, dryer air outside, and heat running indoors, both of which leech moisture from your skin and hair.

A dryer scalp overproduces oil, which leads to a wide array of issues down the line: blocked pores, flakes, and an itchiness. Additionally, while bundling up helps you feel warmer, hats, scarves, and most of your favorite winter accessories cause additional friction on your strands, leading to breakage.

Extensions amplify this issue, as the strands no longer receive nutrients from the scalp, leading to increased dryness and potential for brittle ends if not properly hydrated.

No need to worry though. We’ve compiled a list of habits and products to keep your hair glossy, hydrated, and healthy through the cold.

It’s no secret that the solution to every drying ends is an extra dose of moisture. To maintain your typical hydration levels during the cooler months, you’ll need to up the frequency of both hair oil and deep conditioning treatments.

We recommend applying hair oil once to twice daily depending on the thickness of your hair, especially as an extension wearer. To properly apply, warm the oil by rubbing it between your palms, then gently apply mid to end shaft.

Deep conditioning treatments should be performed at least once a week during the winter months, and every wash if you live in a particularly dry climate. To get the maximum hydration possible, extend the masque time from 5 to 10+ minutes (the perfect excuse for a little extra R&R amid the holiday hustle and bustle).

We’re all about maximum hydration, so we created our Hydration Heroes bundle targeted towards your ends’ best interests, plus a free gift.

We hate to say it, but those burning hot showers you aren’t good for your hair, your scalp, or your skin. Washing in lukewarm water and rinsing in cold (if you can stomach it) seals the cuticle of each strand for a glossy, frizz free finish.

While your holiday updos are cute, any additional tension on your hair creates room for breakage, plus places stress on your scalp, so we recommend keeping your tighter updos to a minimum, and limiting the time of wear. A much healthier alternative, silk scrunchies won’t do your locks dirty, and they happen to be the perfect stocking stuffer.

Last but certainly not least, heat styling reaches an all time high while it’s cold outside, and hot tools are one of damaged hair’s biggest culprits. Keep an eye on the temp of your tools and never use them without a heat protectant to save your strands.

There’s only one thing that can solve a flaky, buildup ridden scalp: gentle exfoliation. The best approach is a combination of gentle daily massage (with a gua sha if you’re craving extra benefits) with a weekly exfoliation treatment with our Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo prior to washing. Make sure to saturate your hair fully with water for an extra luxurious lather throughout your exfoliation experience.

Looking to soothe your irritated scalp? Our scalp serum is packed with calming ingredients, including squalene and celery seed extract, plus boosts hair growth by increasing circulation to the scalp with caffeine! If you’re not a believer, feel free to read the reviews!

Our scalp saviors gift set delivers both these treatments, plus hair growth vitamins to gift your hair the growth boost it deserves while you’re busy gifting others. It’s also the perfect present for your friend that has everything (that is if you don’t keep it for yourself).

While you’re out making holiday magic, don’t let the season get to your strands! Wishing you happy holidays and even better hair days to come!
