Getting the perfect color match for hair extensions is an art form, best performed by a hair extension specialist, but in a pinch, here’s a crash course in getting a perfect color blend with your next set of hair extensions.
If you’re a Utah native, swing by Laced Hair Salon for a custom color blend curation by one of our seasoned hair extension specialists.
Feel free to take it from CEO and Founder Lacy herself, or follow the directions below to get your perfect hair extension color match!
If you’re color matching your own hair, using a color collection is the most sure fire way to find your perfect match. This swatch features all 35 of our hair extension colors, made with 12 inches of each color in the exact same 100% human Remy hair we use to craft our extensions.
Using the color collection allows you to see the true color and dimension in each shade for a seamless color blend, and as long as the color collection remains in pristine condition with the original packaging, you’re able to exchange it for equivalent store credit towards your hair extension purchase.
To get a perfect color match, hold the swatch up to the ends of your hair. This is where your hair extensions will be most visible, so ensure the color is as close as possible to your ends. If your hair is dimensional (varying colors), it’s best to pick an already dimensional color, and a rooted option may be your best bet to ensure your hair extensions aren’t visible when your color grows out.
Keep in mind that a perfect match will typically be the result of a few different colors of hair extensions curated into a custom blend, which is exactly why we offer halfsies packs in both machine sewn and hand tied wefts. If opting for keratin, tape-in, or I-Tip hair extensions, getting a few bags of each allows you to build a dimensional combination that seamlessly matches your natural hair!
Using your color collection is also perfect for curating your color blend, as the wide tabs allow layering of different swatch combinations to see how each blend will appear once installed!
If you’re in need of inspiration, feel free to check out our favorite color combinations, perfect for building the blendy look of your dreams!
If you’re opting to color match your own hair without a color collection, do so very carefully, and keep in mind that hair looks very different in different lighting sources. Using a picture of your hair in bright natural light will result in the best chances of a proper color blend with your hair extensions.
Of course, if you’re in need of assistance throughout the color matching process, our team is more than happy to help you find the best hair extension shade for you.
Happy shopping!
